There is no doubt that cloud storage has been increasing in popularity in the last year but many people do not know that there is an organisation dedicated to driving it success and popularity. The Cloud Storage Initiative (CSI) dedicates all of their efforts to raising the awareness of cloud storage and its benefits through education efforts for the vendor and user communities. This may go some way to explaining the huge success that cloud storage has had over the last couple of years, and with a driving force such as the CSI which is obtaining new members all the time we can expect to see further advances for Cloud Storage. For example the CSI recently acquired Basho Technologies, who have included in their mission statement that they are dedicated to promote confidence in non-traditional storage architectures – in basic terms they are going to encourage more people to use cloud storage. Amongst other industry jargon they say they are striving to educate businesses on the benefits of cloud storage, and effectively trying to speed up the transition that every business should be making into the cloud. The CSI is made up of many cloud storage firms who operate the organisation in a non-profit method, however encouraging cloud storage is effectively encouraging the usage of their products, so the non-profit part is arguable!
