File versioning is one of the most discreet but one of the most helpful features of the best cloud storage vendors as to some people on the outside it may seem pointless. File versioning is pretty self explanatory – you are able to save different versions of a file via your cloud storage system. So, some of you might be thinking whats the point? You surely only need the latest version of a file? In some cases the latest version of the file is the only one you would need, and that is what a lot of cloud storage vendors will back up, however sometimes you might need a previous version of a file. In most cases, the cloud storage system would ignore the previous versions, however imagine you had started a presentation, and just before you finished it a colleague requested to see your opening to the presentation. Without cloud storage you would have to chop part of the presentation, then copy and paste etc, however using cloud storage you can just select the previous version of the file and download it, then send it to your colleague. File versioning has many other uses and is a key part of a complete cloud storage system.
