Online storage has progressed so far from when it was a time consuming, effort draining task to the system it is today which fits so seamlessly in to day-to-day computer usage. Online storage vendors of the highest standards use features which can limit the impact on the hard disk or network by limiting the bandwidth which is used by the online storage program – which in basic terms means that the backup program can run in the background without the user even realizing. This allows the user to use their computer as per usual as well as running a real-time backup system which means that you are backing up at the same time as working normally. This is known in technical terms as disk-write speed throttling, and basically means that you tell the hard disk to limit the effort it puts into the online storage program so that you can still operate at normal speeds. This will of course limit the speed of your backups, but then as soon as you stop working, as to say you computer is idle but still connected to the internet, your backup speed will shoot up again and your online storage program can take more control over the hard disk.
